All in the family
Family definitely influences decisions for us all. No one knows you like your family does and luckily they’re sometimes willing to give you the push in the right direction you’ve been waiting for.
That’s just what happened with our latest success story from Douglas Education Center’s Cosmetology Academy. Jade Morriston graduated from DEC’s Cosmetology Academy in May of 2017 and says she would have never gotten started if it wasn’t for her grandmother.
“I looked at other schools but I really liked Douglas because of the program that they offered and because of my grandmother. She taught Cosmetology for 17 years and taught many of DEC’s Cosmetology instructors.”
The salon at DEC’s Cosmetology Academy along with the endorsement from her grandmother was all Jade needed to make her decision. She let her passion and drive take it from there and didn’t even let a car accident that delayed her graduation for a semester interfere with her ultimate goals.
She now is the manager of the Fantastic Sams in Uniontown and has hired a couple of DEC graduates for open stylist positions. She credits the support departments like Career Services for helping her turn her grandmother’s endorsement along with her passion into the reality of being a salon manager.
“I’ve been out of school since May and I still talk to Dianne in Career Services. She messages me and asks me how I’m doing, how I’m healing from my accident and how my salon is doing. They’re nice and welcoming to go back to.”
