Alumni Success: John Williams
“Before DEC, I had some good years working construction… and some bad years. I wanted to make a positive change in my life,” said recent DEC graduate John Williams. Williams was part of DEC’s first graduating class in the Natural Gas Extraction & Distribution Techniques Program.
“I didn’t know what to expect when I first started at DEC,” Williams recalls. “Going back to school is a really big decision, especially when I wanted to start a career in such a hands-on, demanding field like natural gas extraction & distribution. But from day one, DEC put me at ease.”
A variety of employers are invited on campus to meet and interview current students for open positions within their companies. “I remember in my second semester Calfrac Well Services coming on campus to recruit new employees. I was so nervous for my interview, but as they were asking me questions I felt the answers roll right off my tongue. They hired me, and I thought, ‘Wow. This was the best decision I could have ever made.’”
Discipline and a willingness to learn are very important attributes to have when wanting to start a career in the Natural Gas industry. Williams said, “Hard work plays a big part of my day, but I enjoy every second of it! I’m able to accomplish something every day that is helping America work toward energy independence. What could be better than that?”
