George A. Romero’s Filmmaking Program – 15 Years of Film

George A. Romero’s Filmmaking Program – 15 Years of Film

This past year has been a year of landmark anniversaries for Douglas Education Center. Last November we held an event celebrating 23 Years of Tom Savini’s Special Make-up Effects Program and then in April 2023, we celebrated 20 Years of Cosmetology with an amazing Hair and Character Show!

When it came time to highlight the incredible 15 Years of Filmmaking atDEC we started by digging up as many film projects as we could and put them into a Sizzle Reel. This collection of projects not only spotlights the work of the past but stands as a statement piece to inspire the current and future students. It embodies is what the George A. Romero Filmmaking Program is… filmmaking.

DEC Staff, guests, and friends gathered on Thursday November, 9th to view the reel and attend a panel discussion featuring Bob Tinnell, Director of the George A. Romero Filmmaking Program and DEC President and CEO, Jeff Imbrescia. The two reminisced about the origins of the then named program Factory Filmmaking Program at DEC and how it evolved into the Romero program. Questions were answered and the event concluded with a service award presented to Bob Tinnell for his achievements in his leadership to students and alumni.
