For a school as unique as Douglas Education Center it can be hard to describe to prospective students and parents. The best descriptions can come from our graduates; students who’ve experienced DEC first hand and can best explain why DEC is anything but ordinary.

Haley Rubosky is a licensed Cosmetologist and recent Salon Owner as well as a graduate from DEC’s Cosmetology Academy in 2011. Rubosky sat down with us to describe what sets DEC apart from other beauty academies.
“What sets Douglas apart from a regular beauty academy is that there are other programs and they do let you work all together and learn other experiences. I’ve met people from the entire world at Douglas. I’ve worked with students from the Tom Savini Special Makeup Effects program, the film program, all of the makeup programs and even the medical programs.” – Haley Rubosky
Students from all of the programs were building portfolios to take with them into their professional careers after graduation. To build a portfolio that can help any student navigate through their chosen job field they must have a range to show their abilities.
Rubosky’s favorite part of her time at DEC’s Cosmetology Academy was time spent with her instructors. She enjoyed both the knowledge they displayed and the care they provided to all of the students. She remarked that the Cosmetology program felt more like a family than students and instructors.
Clearly that gave Rubosky the edge to go from graduate to Salon Owner in just a few years. Rubosky’s shop opened in October in 2017 and she couldn’t be happier, using the tools she learned at Douglas to finally fulfill her dream instead of working towards the dreams of others.
