State Secretary of Labor and Industry Kathy Manderino Visits DEC
On Tuesday, July 22, State Secretary of Labor and Industry Kathy Manderino visited Douglas Education Center. Her visit focused on what DEC offers to our students while in school, as well as after. “Really what I am interested in how are career and technical schools are connecting with the employer community and how we can help to make that connection” said Kathy.
Kathy also spoke with numerous students about their classes here at DEC and what they plan on doing when they graduate. “To me programming is diddly-squat if people who are going through the employment training aren’t getting connected on the other end with meaningful employment” Kathy stated. DEC’s Career Services Department works with its graduates by canvasing specific locations for job opportunities.
DEC was proud to present its programs, facilities and students to State Secretary of Labor and Industry Kathy Manderino. Kathy mentioned “Part of what I am hearing is real disconnects, where is that disconnect? That’s what I’m trying to explore.” Hopefully we at DEC were able to give a little more insight into closing that disconnect.
