988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), and is now active across the United States.
When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.
The NAMI HelpLine is a free, nationwide peer-support service providing information, resource referrals and support to people living with a mental health conditions, their family members and caregivers, mental health providers and the public. HelpLine staff and volunteers are experienced, well-trained and able to provide guidance. The Crisis Text Line has trained crisis counselors available 24/7.
The National Domestic Violence Hotline has highly trained expert advocates available 24/7 to talk confidentially with anyone in the United States who is experiencing domestic violence, seeking resources or information, or questioning unhealthy aspects of their relationship.
SAMHSA’s Disaster Distress Helpline provides 24/7, 365-day-a-year crisis counseling and support to people experiencing emotional distress related to natural or human-caused disasters.
SAMHSA’s National Helpline, 1-800-662-HELP (4357), (also known as the Treatment Referral Routing Service) or TTY: 1-800-487-4889 is a confidential, free, 24-hour-a-day, 365-day-a-year, information service, in English and Spanish, for individuals and family members facing mental and/or substance use disorders. This service provides referrals to local treatment facilities, support groups, and community-based organizations. Callers can also order free publications and other information.

A crisis can range from feeling lonely and needing to talk to thoughts of suicide. Stress and problems-both large and small-fill each of our lives and we all have moments of crisis. No matter how big or small these problems seem, it helps to talk with someone.
Crises Center Hotlines provide counseling and mental health support for individuals and families through telephone hotlines, face-to-face meetings and temporary housing assistance.
Each county has their own Crisis Center Hotline that is available to residents of that county. Douglas Education Center is located in Westmoreland County and its crisis center resources are available without charge to our out-of-state students who are temporarily residing here in Monessen or another city within the county. If you are an out-of-state student who is temporarily residing outside of Westmoreland County, you may use the Crisis Center located in your county.
